Had a chance to get in and talk to Gabe finally this afternoon. We cajoled the nurse into letting us access the net with the computer in the room, and he was able to check out the site and read some of the messages and emails you guys have sent. We’re all just blown away by everyone that has stopped by the site and left a message, or called us asking if they can do anything, or shown up with something to eat while we’re all twiddling our thumbs in the waiting room.  It’s really amazing.

Gabe and I got to share a few jokes and chat for a little while before he dozed off. He had a fantastic day today. The therapist got him out of bed and in to a chair for awhile, and he sat there through the initial interview with the detective from IMPD. The hoses and tubes are dwindling, and supposedly he was going to get some jello and maybe something else to eat this evening. His breathing is improving with the help of a respiratory therapist, and he can see again thanks to some quick-thinking Frankes that had a new pair of glasses made (his old ones are still with the Police.) We’re still struggling to get the foundation put together at Chase Bank with the assistance of a local attorney, and hope to have that ready to go tomorrow. People are still sending in some great pictures of Gabe – be sure to keep checking out the gallery for new stuff.

I asked Gabe if I could take a picture and put it up here so all of his far-flung friends could at least see him even if they can’t be here in person, and he agreed – but first he had to recline the bed and pose with his washcloth and morphine clicker. Seriously.

    To the Jordan Family,

We are so glad to hear that you had a great day; we have been thinking of you day and night. This difficult event has made us remember how important it is to hug each other every day. Your good spirits and attitude are inspirational. We would love to help however we can, if anyone is hungry for hot dogs or tater tots, please let us know. Also, Hannah is an attorney, and would happily volunteer her services for anything you may need (although it sounds like you guys are in good hands). We are hopeful for a quick recovery.

    All our best,

    Hannah and Brent Joseph

Someone said, “Expecting everybody will be fair to us because we believe we are basically fine people is no different than expecting a bull will not attack us because we might be vegetarian.” I don’t know you Gabe, but I am genuinely saddened to know your path crossed with those human bulls’. To them none of us matters as long as they get what they want. What happened to you is a downright assault to humanity. It’s really a shame we live in an environment anymore “wrong place wrong time” can change our lives. It’s so good to know though, they were not able to strip you off of your spirits; that is so remarkable.

Keep up that good spirit; it will help your recovery, I am sure. You are in my prayers, Gabe.

Thanks for the late night laugh you just gave me, Gabe. You get bonus points for each piece of medical equipment you incorporate into your shots, so keep that in mind. ;)

Thank you, Pete, for keeping all of us so well informed about Gabe’s progress. It was really good to hear that Gabe’s sense of humor is still intact. I really appreciated the picture of “the clicker” … it helped take away some sadness and left me actually smiling. He must be one amazing guy! The whole Baize family is keeping Gabe and your family in prayer.

    Gabe,

I’ve only known you from the Goose buying wine and food there, but you were always so genuinely nice, good-natured, and very eager just to be an outstanding person. Without bubbling on like a school kid I just think you were a damn great person to be around. We need more people like you in this city and world. I wish you and your family the very best in your recovery and beyond.

To Gabe and all of the Jordans I live in a little bitty town in central Illinois now and am married to a Methodist minister who has three rural churches. We have been praying for you since hearing the news three days ago. You are on our prayer list at all three churches and all of the participants in two Bible studies are praying for you. Gabe, you were a little kid when I knew you, so you may not remember me, but your folks and Jason will. We are not only praying for you, but pulling for you in every way. The news sounds more encouraging every day. Thanks, Pete, for the address. Susan (Walkington) Argo sent this to me and was the one to first call me with your news. We love you all, Bev

When you are ready to travel bring your family to Maui and we’ll put you up for a couple weeks of recuperation. We have a cottage that we keep for family and friends to use. Ask your Aunt Nancy about it. She visits every year.

    Hi Gabe-

We have never met but I was touched by your story and have been thinking about you, wishing you the best. A good friend of mine sent this poem to me today and I thought I would share with you. Take care and hang in there!

I Said a Prayer For You Today.

I know God must have heard.
I felt the answer in my heart.
    Although He spoke no word.

    I didn’t ask for wealth or fame;
    I knew you wouldn’t mind.
I asked Him to send treasures
Of a far more lasting kind.

I asked that He’d be near you
At the start of each new day,
To grant you health and blessings
And friends to share the way.

I asked for happiness for you
In all things great and small.
But it was for His loving care
I prayed the most of all.

This note is for Brooke. I know you have many questions about how your life has changed. That would only be normal. Allow yourself a little time to think about and grieve for the life style that is leaving. Then, when you can, rejoice for the life that you now have. I think that every scene must be brighter, every news story a little more personal, every hug and kiss more precious. The beauty of huge life changes is that it opens a door to things that others will never feel or see because they can’t walk in your shoes. I am so grateful for Gabe’s recovery progress, but can’t help but think if it hadn’t been for the support you have given him before this ever happened, he might not have fought as hard to come back. Having the love of your spouse is the greatest medicine ever.

Gabe, that’s a sexy gown you are wearing :) One of the many things that impresses me about both of you is your resilience and positive outlook. You are an extraordinary couple and I think that shows in the outpouring of comments you’ve already received here. I’m thinking of ya Jordan family!

    Hey Brooke, Gabe and Ezra,

I am so happy to hear that you’re already on the road to recovery. I just wanted to you guys to know that I would like to try and help out in any way I can. I know you might need or want help for some time to come. So, in the future (and whenever you tell me to), I would be happy to fly out and help cook, clean and babysit for a few days. I don’t care if it is in a couple months or in a year. Just let me know what I can do and when I can do it. Silas and I can play with Ezra and take him to the park and do whatever. I love you guys and I hope you just keep doing better and better.

    Love,
    Rebecca and Silas

    Gabe and family-
Tom and I heard about this on Thursday night. We were shocked, sad and in disbelief. Then, I went on the internet and found the wonderful site your friend had set up. We both read the stories and saw the pictures and realized you are a strong young man who has a wonderful family and future. Yesterday is past, today is now and tomorrow will bring all of you a new direction.
Thus, being as serious as I am going to get, I offer you my motorized wheelchair. Tom has his computerized leg and does not need it. By the way it (the chair, not the leg) started out red, but the kids used it as the “Golden Chariot” for “Joseph” last summer and painted it gold. It also has a Harley Davidson sticker on it. The milage is very low, was never used when I bought it and has only been driven around the campus when I can’t stand. Kids love to ride on it and eventually learn how to drive it (probably not at 7 months, and by the way-congrats to you and Brooke). I will ship it, bring it or drive it to IND.-it is that cool.
Recognize that this is somewhat tongue in cheek, but anyone who requests they have their picture taken with a morphine pump in hand, I get.
Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
    Paula and Tom
